Dentures

Dentures have long been used as an alternative to no teeth. Did you know George Washington had wooden dentures? Fortunately, our technology and procedures for recreating your smile have come a long way!

Dentures are a great option as an alternative to having no teeth, but they should not be expected to have the same feel of functionality of natural teeth. The upper jaw usually accommodates dentures better than the lower jaw. The palate creates a “suction-cup” effect, and helps hold the dentures in place. Since the lower jaw doesn’t have the same type of mechanism for holding dentures in place, peoples’ lower dentures often “float” or “wiggle” while performing everyday tasks like eating and talking. Denture adhesive or glue is helpful, but has limitations.

If you are considering dentures, you should consider dental implants. Implants are highly successful and greatly improve the function of dentures. Research show that dentures without implants have about 20% of the functionality of normal teeth. Adding two implants increases to 60% functionality, and adding four or more implants to dentures increases their functionality to 90% and above. Implant-retained dentures are one of the most popular and fastest-growing dental services, provided and stable, functional, and natural smile!
