At your first visit at Canyon Dental in Orem, Utah, Dr. Bowen likes to spend a few minutes with you privately so that you can make him aware of your expectations for him. During that time, he will ask you a series of dental-related questions to obtain your medical and dental histories, address your concerns, and answer any questions you may have.
Following Dr. Bowen, one of our dental assistants will come and take a full set of x-rays and identify any existing work you have had in the past. The x-rays that we use emit less radiation than you would be exposed to just walking outside! X-rays help us identify early problems and take the necessary corrective actions before they turn into bigger problems down the road.
You will then have a gum check (periodontal chart) by our hygienist, who will check your plaque and tartar (calculus) levels, and any other relevant information concerning your gums. We use this
During your exam, Dr. Bowen will carefully examine your head and neck area, jaw, gums, teeth, and perform an oral cancer screening. He will also use a Diagnodent, a laser-based instrument that aids in screening for tooth decay, and is over 90% accurate. This instrumentation helps us detect and treat dental decay earlier in the process, making it more less invasive, more comfortable, and helping avoid more expensive dental problems later on.
After your exam, Dr. Bowen will talk with you and discuss any needed or potential treatment. He will present you with different options and tailor your treatment plan to fit your individual circumstances.
