Fillings

Dentist Orem Utah, Utah Valley, Dental

At Canyon Dental, your dentist in Orem, Utah, we realize that, despite your and our best efforts, sometime teeth have cavities, decay, or chip or break. “Fillings,” also know as restorative dental care, are a way to repair your teeth after they have become decayed or chipped. We use composite or resin-based tooth filling material that looks natural and bonds to your tooth. The procedure is efficient and virtually painless. We can take teeth with cavities, broken teeth, worn-out silver or white fillings, and make your teeth look and feel like they are new again!

When you have fillings done, Dr. Bowen or one of our hygienist will first numb your teeth and the surrounding gums. First, we dry your gums and place a numbing gel (topical anesthetic) to help numb your gums. After that, we use local anesthetic the anesthetize your tooth or teeth that will be restored. You will have little to no pain when you are numbed at our office-Dr. Bowen and our hygienists taken extra time and care to make your visit as comfortable as possible!

Dr. Bowen uses the highest-quality materials available to ensure that your fillings will last. The average lifespan of fillings is 6-8 years, though that may vary widely depending on your oral hygiene, eating habits, and dental care.

After your fillings, you may experience slight tenderness around your gums, and some cold sensitivity where the fillings were placed. Both of these symptoms are normal, and are not a cause for concern. They are generally controlled with over-the-counter pain medication like Ibuprofen and Tylenol. If you have any cold sensitivity, areas that feel uneven, or any pain at all, those symptoms will typically resolve within 3-4 days following your dental treatment.

If you have several fillings done at once, when you chew or bite, it may not feel natural. At your appointment, we do everything to ensure that your fillings are properly adjusted. However, when you are numb, sometimes minor or undetectable discrepancies arise, and you may need to have your fillings adjusted at a subsequent appointment when you are no longer numb. Don’t worry-that is a quick 5-10 minute procedure, and we will make your bite feel perfect!
